turnpoint maps of our areas
turnpoint maps & about GPS
In the right-hand column you'll find the turnpoint maps of the 3 areas that we operate in. The numbers on the maps are the names of the individual turnpoints we use for our tasks/routes. The Zillertal map includes the airspace at the end of the Valley which marks the start of Innsbruck airspace.
Pilots on any of our XC courses may find it helpful to use a GPS but it is not essential. As you'll be given a map in an A4 hi-def version in the welcome pack when you arrive. However if you do bring a GPS please try to get used to it on your local sites at home. I personally like using one as it gives me important information such as speed over ground, distance to next waypoint and if set up correctly will even tell me how high I have to climb to make it safely home.
Don't worry if you don't have one, many pilots chose not to and I believe that if you're not used to it a GPS will actually just be too distracting.
However if you decide to bring one we can give you a upload of the waypoints at the first briefing, which saves programming them in maunally (there are nearly 100 Zillertal ones alone). So please DON'T forget your cable. We have Garmin serial and XCT cables to date. Again any questions to do with GPS give us a mail on the contact page.
