How do retrieves work when flying with Austrian Arena?
When we're flying mainly around the Zillertal and Tuxertal valley systems we'll mainly use public transport to get back to Mayrhofen. Brand new trains run every 30mins from the 14 railway stations that line the valley floor.
Land in one of the many open fields near any village and you'll never have to walk more than 5minutes to the nearest railway station. We also have them in the GPS turnpoint upload at initial briefing. As simple as it gets really. And greener....
You'll be issued a voucher at the initial briefing, with this you'll be given free use of the air-con'd shuttle service from Mayrhofen train station to wherever our meeting point is. Could be either landing areas or the Martinus Guesthouse. This is all assuming you don't make it to goal.
You can click here for all details about the public transport system in the valley, includes a map.
However for the Advanced Pinzgau weeks we'll have our own driver as getting home from Pinzgau can be problematic without retrieve.
Also when you are on our Bassano XC Courses we'll provide full retrieve back up and rides up to launch are included in the price.
Dolomites XC weeks are run using the local transport too as it's regular, cheap and reliable and stops outside our hotel!
If you have any other questions regarding retrieval or anything else on any of our weeks please use the contact form in main menu.
Do you cater for non-flying partners?
Non-flying partners are very welcome and there is lots of stuff keep the family entertained whilst you're out flying all day. The cost of accommodating your partner or friend is only the price of accommodation in that area, around 25 - 35euros per night.
Bassano is particularly great for those with wives who like to shop. The area has many outlet stores from well-known brands.
How much does it cost to get up the mountain?
A one-way ticket for the Penken in Mayrhofen is around 8euros. A "10 point card" can be purchased for a discount, this includes the Ahorn cable car too.
Rides up to Melchboden for the XC course in Spring are around 6euros.
A one-way trip up to the Hintertux Glacier is around 21euros for the 3 Cable cars that take you to 3250m.
For the Dolomites XC Tour in Autumn there is the possibility of buying a 6 day lift ticket for around 30euros.
Transport to launch in Bassano is included in the price, however if pilots land early on an XC route there is a chance to use shuttle service to launch for 5euros per trip.
Is there a refund if bad weather?
There is no refund due to bad weather as the weather out of anyone's control. However in the unlikely event that the week is totally unflyable over the whole alps (Bassano not an option either) then we'll offer a reduced price on a course in the future.
Is there a single room supplement?
There could be a single room supplement on weeks in the high season here, July and August. This is due to the demand for single rooms goes up and therefore the price. The cost of this is 40€ per week.
What shall I bring with me?
Please bring with you your insurance details plus BHPA or governing body's Paragliding license. We check on the first day that all pilots flying with us have repatriation and 3rd party insurance.
What other activities are available if not flyable?
There are heaps of activities to keep you busy should it become wet or windy.
Rafting, Hydro Speeding, Canyoning, Hiking, Mountain Biking, Climbing wall & Swimming pool and Wellness Spas. There are many mountain huts which I like to hike up to when not flyable. And of course there are lots of superb restaurants around town.
more coming soon...
