CLIENT CRACKS 164KM…
Wednesday, May 28th, 2008
On the 13th May Sam Cullingworth flew a huge flat triangle of 164km with us. Being with a group of less experienced pilots I elected to fly slightly shorter tasks around the valley with them. However I’d set Sam a 115km flat triangle the previous day and when completed he said he wanted more and what would the conditions allow. So I set and briefed him on the same flight that is my longest around the area. Mayrhofen - Tux - Zell am See - Mayrhofen. He completed it in just over 7hrs. Well done Sam
Everyone on the week broke there previous personal bests for km XC or height gain (3400m). Well done to everyone out that week. The World Record breaking week over the Alps so far this year. Sam also filmed some of the flight in HD and it should appear on a Sky TV programme about Extreme Sports. Look out for it.
I also made a short film and that will appear on the web as soon as I’ve finished cutting it, too busy flying and organizing for next weeks comp in Spain though at the moment.
edit: Movie can be seen here
All the best

This week has been an incredible record breaking week with 4200m cloud base and even better almost no wind at all altitudes, after Tom Walder’s amazing 160km FAI triangle flight he proved yet again that he is still a force to be reckoned with. On Friday 9th May, still pretty early in the season, he and Stefan Steigler flew an incredible 252km FAI triangle, smashing the World Record.
After the terrible weather from April it finally got itself together in time for the first XC course in my home town of Mayrhofen. With much snow on the high launches we’ve had to use the lower free from snow launches. Not a problem as the lapse rate has been perfect the whole week with some nice flights on the first few days of the course.
